We planned a day in Den Haag: Mauritshuis Museum, lunch in a cafe, shopping, and a hammam. Take it from us, there’s nothing better than a spa day with friends, even better when you can throw in some culture and 15,000 steps through a gorgeous city.
I definitely feel more Dutch now that I have smeared the best food they have in this country all over my face. I do think that I will be drawing the line here though, I don’t feel the need for herring or bitterballen face masks.
If you would like to have an authentic experience, opt for the Russian banya where you can lounge between your ‘sweat and dunk’ and order cured meats of dubious origin, vodka and beer.
We didn’t quite plan ahead and went into the salt pool after our hammam, but the stinging salt just added something a little zingy to the experience.
There may have been Dutch people frowning at us and our laughter, but there was too much steam to clearly see their disapproving stares.
